The Issue + Context
Loneliness and social isolation
of older population in aged care facilities
Loneliness and social isolation are prominent issues that adversely affects the health and well-being of Australian's growing older population. Living in residential aged care institutions can also exacerbate the feeling of loneliness and social isolation.
There also exist a disconnection between the elderly and younger generation. Rooted in ageist attitudes from both sides, this disconnection can be aggravated by generational differences in personal values, philosophies, or learning and work habits.

"Loneliness kills. It's as powerful as smoking or alcoholism."
Dr. Robert Waldinger - director of the Harvard Study of Adult Development
